FIELD: glass making. SUBSTANCE: method of heating glass when hardening it in horizontal multisection hardening furnaces includes (i)stage of intensive heating under gradual temperature rise conditions in primary sections of furnace with maintaining maximum allowable temperature gradient over glass thickness and (ii) stage of finishing at maximum allowable temperature in following sections of furnace until hardening temperature in glass is attained. EFFECT: increased furnace productivity; improved quality of produce; and reduced power consumption.
