FIELD: glass making technology; methods of cooling glass in the course of annealing in continuous travelling furnaces (lehrs). SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes stage of equalizing the temperature in glass, annealing and slow cooling under conditions of stepped decrease of temperature in initial sections of furnace maintaining maximum permissible magnitudes of residual stresses in glass; fast cooling stage is effected under conditions of stepped decrease of temperature in subsequent sections of furnace at maintaining maximum permissible magnitude of ultimate stresses in glass. EFFECT: increased productivity of travelling furnace at retained quality of product. 2 tbl
