FIELD: oil production industry. SUBSTANCE: this relates to control of liquid level in wells by acoustic method and can be used for measuring static and dynamic levels in oil wells. Method implies generation of acoustic pulse at well head, conversion of reflected acoustic signals into electric, their amplification, filtration, determining square root of signal amplitude, recording of obtained signal by self-recording instrument. Liquid level in well is determined by multiplying time of passing sound from well head to liquid level as measured according to acoustic signal chart by sound speed value as taken from tabulated data depending on pressure and properties of gas in annular space, and dividing this product by two. Method is realized by device having generator of acoustic pulses, pointer-type pressure gauge and in series connected acoustic converter, amplifier, filter, square root determining unit, and self-recording instrument.
