FIELD: production of carbonic reductants for use in thermochemical processes for producing metals and metalloids in free state. SUBSTANCE: carbonic blanks are shaped and subjected to step-wise heat treatment, while, simultaneously, subjecting blanks to effect of electric field applied at voltage 0.1-50.0 V. Electric charge induced in blanks is led off through transition electric resistor. After heat treatment, blanks are subjected to treatment by magnetic field. Finished material has following properties: ash content 1.17 - 1.9 wt.%, non-volatile carbon content 92.15-96.42 wt.%, apparent density 0.401-0.420 g/cu. cm, compressive strength along capillaries 105-110 kg/sq.cm, clarifying capacity as related to iodine 30-31 opt.%. EFFECT: high-quality carbonic material. 1 tbl
