FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention is directed to producing reducing agent possessing elevated process efficiency regarding metallurgical process conditions, for example, those of crude silicon production process. Method includes choice of starting crude peat deposit; watering peat bed; intensive physical contraction of peat substance involving dispersing, agitation, briquet formation and its final sun-drying; composing process blend from briquetted material; multi-stage thermal-contraction treatment of blend under condition of external heating of stationary material bed requiring performing drying and multistep pyrolysis by way of bertinization, semicoking, and coking of occurring process conversions with simultaneously removing volatile pyrolysis side products; and discharging thermally contracted solid pyrolysis residue and formation therefrom parties of desired product. Novelty consists in that pyrolysis of stationary bed is conducted under condition of converter electrical grounding. The latter is achieved through removing from material a potential layer within the range 0.05-5.0 V. In this case, sun-drying of briquets is carried out in condition of open access to fragments of their conditionally horizontal surface for summary natural sun radiation. As a result, briquet material is exposed to specific photochemical load in the range 110-150 mJ/sq.m. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process. 1 tbl
