FIELD: alumina and aluminium production. SUBSTANCE: bauxite ore is crushed down to particle size ranging from - 20 to 10 mm, roasted in oxidizing atmosphere at temperature 530-620 C, followed by cooling roasted material and by processing it by Bayer process. Oxidizing atmosphere is maintained such that oxygen content in off-gases would be equal to 5-15%. EFFECT: method is advantageous in that it permits to commercialize difficult-to- process siderite-contaminated bauxites representing major portion of world's bauxite reserves.
