FIELD: missile launch warning systems, Stealth-technology aircraft detection systems. SUBSTANCE: method involves reception of electromagnetic waves which are output by object, measurement of its characteristics and comparison of measured characteristics to given reference values. When values are equal, object is judged as recognized with given fidelity. Electromagnetic waves which are output from object include radiation which is generated by electric discharges caused by its operations as well as radiation from object parts in which electric discharges occur. Measured characteristics include temporal and spectral characteristics of received electromagnetic waves. When measured characteristics are compared to given reference values, geometric size of object to be recognized is taken into account. EFFECT: possibility to detect and recognize objects which generate electric discharges. 8 cl
