FIELD: chemical technology, paint and varnish industry. SUBSTANCE: alkyd resin is produced by interaction of trimethylolpropane, dicarboxylic acid or its anhydride or acid and anhydride mixture or tall oil aliphatic acid anhydrides and butyl ester at their mass ratio = (26.5-28):(33-36.5): (36.2-40.5), respectively. Process is carried out at heating (at 215-240 C) for a few hours up to alkyd resin producing. Aliphatic acid butyl esters were obtained by esterification of tall oil aliphatic acids with butyl alcohol in the presence of p-toluenesulfoacid at 60-140 C, under pressure 70-100 mm mercury column, at mole ratio of aliphatic acid, sulfoacid and butyl alcohol = 1: 0.02:1.5. The modified alkyd resins were combined with melaminoformaldehyde resins to obtain coatings exhibiting the increased hardness. EFFECT: improved method of synthesis. 2 tbl
