FIELD: electronic engineering. SUBSTANCE: image carrier has metal substrate, photosensitive layer applied on it and protective coating based on carbon and located on the outside of the above-indicated layer. Upper part of photosensitive layer, 10- thick contains hydrogen and carbon atoms coupled chemically to material of photosensitive layer and protective coating. The latter may be manufactured multilayer. When manufacturing the electrophotographic carrier, surface of metal substrate is coated with photosensitive layer on which later carbon-based protective coating is applied by settling it from ionized flux of hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon mixture, thus providing for saturation of upper part of photosensitive layer with hydrogen and carbon. Protective coating is applied at hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon mixture pressure ranging from 6•10-1 to 50 Pa. Prior to applying the protective coating, photosensitive layer surface is treated with argon ions. EFFECT: more effective design. 13 cl, 3 dwg
