FIELD: metallurgy, in particular, metal continuous casting. SUBSTANCE: method provides for measuring the thickness of mold walls, determination of wear value after each series of heats and their subsequent dressing. In so doing, wall lower part is dressed by value equals to 1.1-1.5 of that of dressing in the upper part of walls. Mold has working walls secured to walls with longitudinal channels for coolant supplied through branch pipes. Thickness of wall between cooling channel and working surface of mold in lower part at the beginning of service of mold in amount of 1.1-1.5 of respective distance in upper part. EFFECT: increased service life. 2 cl, 1 dwg
