FIELD: metallurgy, namely designs of molds for slab continuous casting.
SUBSTANCE: mold includes cooled narrow and wide walls; narrow walls has portions I and II whose length is equal respectively I1 and I2. On portion I working surface of wall is rectilinear according to relation y = (a - ω)x; in portion II- according to relation where y - difference between wall thickness of upper portion of mold spaced by distance x from top portion of mold; x - distance from top portion of mold; a, b - coefficients depending upon steel kind, casting mode, billet cross section size; ω - coefficient. In ribs adjacent to working surface of walls turning spaced from top portion of mold walls is formed. Width of said turning is equal to distance from boundary of turning on working surface till end of narrow wall, and said width continuously increases as spaced from mold top part. Depth of turning may be constant or it may be varied along width and length of turning.
EFFECT: improved heat exchange between narrow faces of slab and narrow faces of mold, enhanced strength of mold, lowered possibility of occurring cross and rib cracking in billets, decreased probability of melt outburst.
