FIELD: polymer fibers. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to fabricating high-strength single fibers from aromatic polyamide having low-structured surface layer and being resistant to fibrillation and abrasive wear. Single fibers are characterized by diameter 40 to 480 mc, titer 1.7 to 260 tex, rupture strength up to 169 cN/tex, elongation up to 4.58%, initial modulus of elasticity 1600 to 5536 cN/tex, rupture energy per single fiber unit weight up to 38.1 J/g. Single fibers are obtained from 20% optically anisotropic polymer solution in concentrated sulfuric acid by way of extruding it at temperature not higher than 100 C through air space into coagulating medium. Diameter of die hole does not exceed 80 mcm and temperature of coagulation is up to 16 C. Single fibers are washed out and dried. Diameter of dry single fiber (D) expressed in mm and coagulation time in sec (t) are interrelated by equation: t = kD where k > 30.5.
