FIELD: high voltage power engineering; protection of power-transmission components and high-voltage installations against surge voltages across members under protection. SUBSTANCE: arrester is made in the form of elongated body of solid dielectric with two main electrodes installed at its ends for connecting it to power transmission line or to high-voltage installation. Distance between main electrodes is longer than sparkover distance of line or installation component being protected. Metal, semiconducting, or ferroelectric particles measuring 10 mcm to 5 mm are scattered inside and/or on outside surface of mentioned elongated body with volume density of 5 to 30%. These particles provide for lower discharge voltage across protected part of line or installation. EFFECT: simplified design and facilitated manufacture, easy installation of arrester on power transmission line or high-voltage installation, improved reliability of protection against sparkover discharges tuning into power arc. 4 cl, 2 dwg
