FIELD: protection of crucibles for metal melting, heaters and shields of electric heating devices. SUBSTANCE: the offered method includes mixing of powder of silicate glass containing, wt.%: B2O3 15.0-17.0; Al2O3 1.2-2.0; the balance, SiO2, with oxide or oxygen-free compound of refractory metal and binding agent. Obtained slip is applied to article containing carbon and silicon carbide. Additional slip from silicate glass and binding agent is applied and heat-treated in vacuum at 950-1200 C. Then, it is subjected in inert or oxygen-containing atmosphere at 1200-1450 C. In so doing, after application of main slip, additional heat treatment in vacuum is conducted.
