FIELD: utilization of wastes and remainders containing iron in form of oxide and/or in form of metal and/or containing carbon to produce liquid iron or steel semiproduct. SUBSTANCE: the offered method includes reduction of iron ore into sponge iron in zone of direct reduction. Then, sponge iron carbon-containing material for production of reducing gas. Reducing gas is introduced into zone of direct reduction where it is transformed and withdrawn as top gas. To provide for full utilization of wastes and remainders with energy saving, the wastes and remainders are divided by their chemical composition into three groups. The first group includes materials containing, mainly, iron in form of oxide, the second group includes materials containing iron in form of metal, and the third group includes, mainly, carbon-containing materials. Materials of the first group and third groups are charged into zone of melting and gasification. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 8 cl, 1 dwg
