FIELD: heat-power engineering and other industries for accumulation of thermal energy. SUBSTANCE: heat exchange elements are made in form of tubular coils containing liquid heat-transfer agent; shaped of coils ensures smooth heating of horizontal layers of working medium; heat exchange elements of one loop alternate in layers with heat-exchange elements of second loop. Each loop is provided with devices for directing the hot heat-transfer agent flow downward and coil heat-transfer agent flow upward. Housing and all vertical structural members are made from low-heat-conducting material. There is cavity above working medium inside housing which is filled with gas neutral relative to working medium and structural materials and connected with chamber located outside housing. Material of working medium is so selected that its melting point is within working temperature range of one loop. When exchanger is used for cleaning substances by zone melting method, it is provided with more than three heat exchange loops at independent delivery of heat-transfer agent; substance to be cleaned is used as working medium in this case.
