FIELD: plasma electronics; generation and amplification of electromagnetic microwave oscillations or waves for heating nonlinear media including plasma. SUBSTANCE: method involves the following procedures: electromagnetic radiation is passed through nonlinear medium; electromagnetic radiation with arbitrary spectrum width is subjected to pulse-position modulation by constant-frequency oscillations so that set of frequencies equally spaced apart through modulation frequency corresponded to each carrier frequency of source nonmodulated radiation in frequency spectrum of modulated radiation; nonlinear medium and modulation frequency are chosen so that inherent frequency of wave excitations of nonlinear medium were equal to or a multiple of modulation frequency; synchronism condition is provided for harmonics of modulated source radiation and induced wave excitations interacting in nonlinear medium. In addition, energy of wave excitations occurring in nonlinear medium is stored by passing modulated electromagnetic radiation over closed loop many times through same section of nonlinear medium using one or more resonators.
