FIELD: chemistry of polymers. SUBSTANCE: claimed method comprises treating polymeric organosilicon compound or mixture of polymeric organosilicon compounds with hydrogen chloride in the presence of catalyst at 100-250 C and at pressure higher than pressure of saturated vapors of original compound or mixture of original compounds at process temperature. Catalyst includes tertiary amines or phosphines, or tetraalkyl ammonium chloride or complex compounds of hydrogen chloride and tertiary amines or phosphines, e. g. triethyl amine tetraethyl ammonium chloride, tri-(n-butyl)amine, tetra- (n-butyl)ammonium bromide. Process is carried out in the presence of aprotic organic solvent (e.g. benzene, chlorobenzene, O-xylene, or the like). Polymeric organosilicon compound or mixture of compounds of formula: wherein alternation of units may be both regular and irregular; x is 0-2; y is 0-3; n is equal or greater than 0; n2 is equal or greater than 0; n3 is equal or greater than 1; (n1+n2+n3), (n1+n2+y) is equal or greater than 1; R is C1-C3 alkyl.
