METHOD FOR CHECKING BANK-NOTE VALIDITY Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: authentication methods using preliminary test, in particular, for detection of valid and faked bank-notes and checking financial documents. SUBSTANCE: method involves measurement of two independent three-dimensional characteristics of bank-notes, one of which (paper texture characteristic) describes individual characteristics of bank-note which depend on paper manufacturing technology for these bank-note, while second characteristic (typographic characteristic) describes individual characteristics of bank-note which depend on printing technology. Later these characteristics are compared to reference value which conforms to combination of these characteristics of valid bank-note. It is generated during testing of valid bank-note during its manufacturing. First characteristic is measured by scanning free bank-note region in first scanning laser beam with wavelength λ₁; second characteristic is measured by reading printing feature using second laser beam with wavelength λ₂ which is reflected from bank-note surface. EFFECT: increased reliability of faked bank- note detection. 1 dwg
