SUBSTANCE: in the method, a banknote array is scanned by a matrix scanner with synchronisation with electric discharge between electrodes in a transparent tube; the light source used is a translucent tube filled with inert gas; the banknote array is irradiated by exciting electric discharge in the inert gas.
EFFECT: high accuracy of authenticating banknotes.
