FIELD: city traffic control systems. SUBSTANCE: method involves detection of mean estimated velocity of vehicle movement in controlled piece between cross lights and indication of this velocity by means of digital indicator, detection of moment when next light is red, measuring time between start of busy state and calculation of mean estimated velocity using difference between minimal advisable passing time to next cross light and time which passed from start of busy state. Then method involves setting mean estimated velocity of vehicle movement in controlled piece till next cross light using digital indicator, i.e. according time when vehicle passes digital indicator and functional state of next cross light in this moment. Detector traces and detects moment when next cross light is to be busy. Control signal is transmitted through communication channel to command decoder which starts address counter and finally program unit provides zero mean velocity which is displayed on digital indicator. Then 24-hour clock provide clock frequency signals which are received by address counter which increases address value in order to select between velocity values which are stored in program unit. EFFECT: possibility to control movement of vehicles in city arterial roads with different distance between cross lights using one-side and two-side traffic streets, possibility for car drivers which enter arterial road from arbitrary direction to fit into estimated velocity values for passing this arterial road and follow green light phase of next cross light in order to increase transmission capacity of arterial road. 2 cl, 1 dwg
