FIELD: nonferrous metals production. SUBSTANCE: magnesium and chlorine are produced by electrolysis of molten salts in individually powered electrolyzers combined into a single production line. Method includes preparing, along with magnesium chloride raw material, inert salts in the form of solid alkali and alkali-earth metal chlorides or their mixtures, transportation thereof, and continuous loading into electrolyzers in amounts enabling stabilization of process temperature. As inert salt or its component, solid electrolyte or purified slime-electrolyte mixture are proposed to be used. Inert salts are loaded simultaneously with magnesium chloride material and, when solid raw material is used, inert salts are completely or partially mixed with it. Application of the method to magnesium and chlorine production line is described taking in account peculiar features of line. Criterion is found to reveal necessity of controlling temperature and evaluating effect caused by varying rate of loading solid salt or its mixture with solid raw material into individually powered electrolyzer belonging to production line.
