FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to non-ferrous metallurgy, namely to the metallurgy of magnesium. Method includes feeding molten magnesium chloride into a heated tank, loading onto its surface, with continuous stirring, a previously prepared mixture of solid salts of sodium chloride and potassium chloride. Mass ratio in the previously prepared mixture of solid salts of sodium chloride and potassium chloride is maintained at 1:(1–5). Resulting mixture is heated to 675–750 °C, melted and defended. After selected the clarified part and sent to the process of obtaining magnesium and chlorine. Device includes a tank, closed with overlapping with openings for supplying magnesium chloride, for loading a mixture of solid salts of sodium chloride and potassium chloride, for removing sludge and sampling the electrolyte melt.
EFFECT: technical result is to improve the quality of the electrolyte, increase the performance of the device, reducing the cost of electricity and the loss of raw materials.
