FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: when cut off cylinders are put into operation, effort in drive of timing valve (mainly intake valves) of these cylinders is measured by measuring working liquid pressure in hydraulic rods. Then measured effort is compared with standard value and if measured exceeds standard value, fuel delivery to cylinders is cut off by shutting off air supply to cylinders by setting valves, mainly intake valves, in closed position. EFFECT: improved protection of timing valves from overloads. 4 cl, 1 dwg
