FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines; valve-actuating gears. SUBSTANCE: proposed mechanism has hollow cylinder with bottom, spring-loaded plunger partially getting into cylinder for travel and forming, together with cylinder, a working space, piston arranged in working space and forming under-piston and above-piston spaces, supply, drain and damping channels, check valve, and throttle. Supply channel made in cylinder bottom places under-piston space in communication with working liquid pressure source. Under-piston space communicates with ambient medium through channel and above-piston space, through damping channel. Check valve is arranged in supply channel, and throttle, in drain channel. Additional supply channel is made in plunger to place above- piston space in communication with working liquid pressure source. Damping channel is made with section variable in length. Thermocouple can be installed in damping channel to provide its partial overlapping. Supply channel can also be furnished with thermocouple. Damping channel can be made either in plunger, or in cylinder wall. EFFECT: possibility of changing valve timing phases and travel of valves at different modes of operation. 7 cl, 6 dwg
