FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: the method consists in formation of a layer of material to be processed with the lower zone of coarse particles and upper zone of fine particles confined by the horizontal surface of the apparatus, its lateral surfaces (walls) and by the upper horizontal surface of the layer proper; jet feed of liquefying agent is conducted by two flows, one of which is fed through the apparatus horizontal surface, and the other is introduced through the lateral walls forming several tiers of jets at a different height; liquefying agent is introduced through the apparatus lateral walls in such a capacity that the total amount of liquefying agent introduced to the layers through the apparatus lateral walls would make up 15 to 90% of its total amount introduced to the layer. In case of a relatively low expansion of the layer in height only 15 to 50% is introduced through the lateral surfaces, and at a high expansion in height 50 to 90% of liquefying agent is introduced, in the latter case the agent is fed by jets to the upper tier or tiers within 20 to 60% of the total amount of liquefying agent introduced to the layer. The length of the jets fed to the layer through the upper tier or tiers is selected from relation: , where: ljet - jet length; Du - diameter or width of apparatus section at the level of the layer upper surface; Dl - diameter or width of apparatus lower surface. Liquefying agent may also be fed by jets from the lower tier at an acute angle to the apparatus horizontal surface. At a periodic unloading of material from the bottom of the layer, the flow rate of liquefying agent fed through the lateral surfaces is reduced, decreasing its feed and then cutting off in succession the tiers from top to bottom with unloading of material.
