FIELD: radiation treatment of minerals with the aim of increasing their jewelry value. SUBSTANCE: thermal neutrons are partially filtered out with the aid of cadmium foil, with which the container is turned. The container is filled with a substance or a mixture of substances absorbing the thermal and resonance neutrons, for instance, boron, cadmium, boron - indium, cadmium - tantalum, cadmium - indium, etc. Then, minerals are placed in it, the ratio of the offered substances in the mixture and the density of container filling with it are calculated proceeding from the conduction that at the instant of radiation treatment the high-speed neutron flux-to-thermal neutron flux ratio in the container would exceed or equal 10. EFFECT: reduced induced activity of specimens conditioned by thermal and resonance neutrons, which are formed in the working volume due to deceleration of high-speed neutrons.
