FIELD: waste water treatment. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to removal of various nitrogen-containing compounds from aqueous phase. First, type of nitrogen-containing compounds contained in waste water is identified, their concentration is determined, and equilibrium between oxidized and reduced forms of nitrogen is set by adding proper reagent. Mixture is then heated to specified temperature ranging from about 300 to 600 C to produce less harmful nitrogen, oxygen, hydroxides, alcohols, and hydrocarbons. Heating is conduced under pressure high enough to maintain stream in liquid or above-critical phase. When setting equilibrium between oxidized and reduced forms of nitrogen, a substance is added selected from the group including hydrogen, , hydrogen sulfide, hydrogen peroxide, and potassium permanganate in quantity equivalent to a half molar content of nitrogen-containing compound. In particular, removed are ammonium ions, amide ions, amides, amines, amino acids, ammonia, nitro compounds, azo compounds, glycine, pyridine, nitric acid, nitrites, and nitrates.
