FIELD: water treatment.
SUBSTANCE: water containing nitrates as impurities is passed through porous carrier containing transition metal capable of activating molecular hydrogen and bearing, attached to it, denitrification bacterial strains, which can survive under oxygen-free conditions in presence of hydrogen as reducing agent, pH value of reaction mixture being maintained between 4.5 and 7.8 by means of carbon dioxide. Water denitrification apparatus comprises denitrification reactor, hydrogen and carbon dioxide containers, flash evaporation container for water-dissolved gases, and ozonation unit.
EFFECT: enabled high-specific activity in reduction of nitrates into elementary nitrogen excluding formation of ammonia and other toxic substance.
