FIELD: petroleum processing and petrochemistry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to treating hydrocarbon-containing gases, e.g. cracked gases and collateral gases from petroleum refining to isolate one or several components. Method consists in feeding stream of gaseous hydrocarbons and stream of solvent for hydrocarbons into demethanization absorption column, from the top of which gas stream is withdrawn containing methane, hydrogen, solvent for hydrocarbons, and ethylene, and bottom stream containing solvent for hydrocarbons and ethylene. Further ethylene isolation process proceeds as follows: top gas stream is transferred into self- cooling isolation apparatus and bottom stream into solvent recovery column and then into demethanization column.
