FIELD: petroleum chemistry. SUBSTANCE: method consists in hydrogenation of C₂-C₅ and heavier acetylenes and diens contained in flow of feedstock obtained in the course of thermal cracking without essential hydrogenation of C₂ and C₃ olefins contained in it, C₄ and heavier olefins may be additionally subjected to hydrogenation. Thus, cracked still gas used as feedstock material in olefin-producing plant is hydrogenated in distillation reaction column containing hydrogenation reaction catalyst without releasing hydrogen from starting gas and without hydrogenating ethylene and propylene in pronounced degree. At combined reaction and rectification treatment of feedstock, required hydrogenation reactions proceed simultaneously and feedstock is separated into fractions; hydrogenation proceeds under such conditions (maintained specially) when ethylene and propylene remain non- hydrogenated and all other C₂ and heavier unsaturated hydrocarbons become hydrogenated. Hydrogen which does not enter into reaction may be separated from overhead product in diaphragm separator and may be used for interaction with C₉ and heavier hydrocarbons separated from feedstock and production of hydrogenated pyrolysis from them.
