FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves reducing carbon enrichment of slag during discharge of slag from steelmaking unit; conducting thermal metal reduction of concentrated slag by means of elements having higher oxygen affinity as compared to carbon at liquid slag temperatures; supplying mentioned elements at the level below and/or under melt flow; separating reduced metal from concentrated slag. Reducing concentration of slag is performed by coke carbon, hard coals, crushed coal lining and electrodes and thermal metal reduction of concentrated slag - by alloys containing aluminum, silicon, calcium, magnesium, titanium. Vanadium converter slag is treated in steelmaking unit and/or in ladle lined by refractories possessing heat-resistance higher than that of fireclay. Carbon and metal thermal reduction elements may be introduced into gas-carrier flow below melt surface. Iron oxides reduction and removal of phosphor from basic vanadium slag allow vanadium irons to be reprocessed in oxygen converters by monoprocess.
