DEVICE FOR REGULATION OF METAL LEVEL IN MOLD OF PLANT FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING OF CASTING BLOCKS Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

Abstract RU 2105636 C1

FIELD: foundry, in particular, continuous casting of casting blocks; may be used in systems of automatic control of metal continuous casting. SUBSTANCE: device provides for measurement of metal level in mold of continuous casting machine, comparison of measured level with the preset metal level, and level regulation on the basis of obtained deviation by supply of metal to mold. Metal level is measured by ultrasonic detection and ranging of metal (slag) surface in mold with the help of device having ultrasonic acoustic system made on piezoceramic element and operating alternately for radiation and reception of ultrasonic waves. Acoustic system located above metal surface in mold radiates a short train of ultrasonic waves which being reflected from metal (slag) surface is absorbed by acoustic system connected with electronic system. Electronic system registers the time of passage of ultrasonic from piezoceramic element of acoustic system to metal (slag) surface and vice versa and generates DC signal proportional to measured distance. Generated signal is supplied through analog-to-digital converter to computer which controls actuating mechanism and tundish stopper of continuous casting machine. EFFECT: higher accuracy in maintaining of metal level in mold of continuous casting machine; improved quality of produced casting blocks. 1 dwg
