SUBSTANCE: adapter for holding end cutter has shank adapted for mounting end cutter in metal-cutting machine, holder with flexible members, each having one end integral with shank and opposite end, inner and outer surfaces, with inner surface being adapted for tool clamping. Adapter is further provided with safety nut whose inner surface embraces outer surfaces of holder segments. Twisting moment is reduced by providing safety nut and holder segment interface with cooperating and noncooperative portions, which may be disposed on safety nut or on holder segments.
