SEALING MATERIAL IN FORM OF CORD AND METHOD OF MAKING GASKETS FROM IT Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: sealing technology; materials made from expanded graphite; sealing flanged joints and shut-off fittings. SUBSTANCE: sealing material includes core and braiding formed by connecting strips of equal width in bundle; strips are cut from expanded graphite and braiding is made in form of net woven from antifriction fibers or from metal wire; it is placed for motion along axis of core. Method of making the gaskets consists in placing the sealing cord in joint to be sealed and pressing it at simultaneously tightening up the joint to be sealed. Prior to pressing, members and counter-members are formed at respective ends of core of sealing cord for their geometric mating at preliminary shift of braiding. After ends of core of sealing cord are connected together, braiding is shifted along core for covering the joint area of ends of sealing cord core. EFFECT: enhanced reliability. 3 cl, 6 dwg
