FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: proposed gear presents resonator in the form of bar made from piezomaterial on which indenter is put that is excited electrically on definite frequency. Resonator may be manufactured in the form of tuning fork. Adjusted voltage source is connected to resonator and is used to move and load indenter under action of backward piezoeffect. pressing of indenter against surface causes change of parameters of vibrations of resonator due to presence of losses of energy and additional rigidity in area of contact. These changes are recorded by means of detection circuit and are employed to determine characteristics of material. Gear may be used to measure mechanical characteristics of materials (modulus of elasticity, hardness) with submicron and nanomicron resolution.
