FIELD: fat-and- oil industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to margarine production, perfumery and other industries involving processes in which solid- phase products of hydrogenation of vegetable oils and fats are utilized. Method consists in continuously, semicontinuously, or periodically hydrogenating raw materials under stirring at 80-250 C and hydrogen pressure 0.1-2.5 MPa in presence of catalytically active metals (Ni, Pd, Pt, Cu, Cr, Co) on silica and/or alumina carriers. More particularly, process is carried out on a fibrous catalyst on carrier consisting of segments of amorphous fibers or threads 3 to 100 mm long and 2 to 20 mcm in diameter, wherein content of catalytically active metal in relation to oil being hydrogenated is 0.001 to 0.05 wt %. Oil is either pumped through stationary catalyst bed or is agitated with catalyst. EFFECT: essentially decreased catalyst consumption. 5 cl
