FIELD: foundry; may be used in magnetic holding of molten metal, from the open side of vertically directed gap between two horizontally installed rolls. SUBSTANCE: proximity effect is used for direct setting up of horizontal magnetic field near open side of gap which extends through open side of gap to molten metal; in gap, and magnetic field is confined in fact by gap open side. Horizontal magnetic field is directly induced by coil installed near the open side of gap and by a part of its surface directed to gap open side. In this case, alternating current is passed through coil for induction of horizontal magnetic field spreading through the open side of gap to molten metal with magnetic intensity sufficient for holding of molten metal in vertical gap, and confinement of horizontal magnetic field allowing provision of back trajectory with low magnetic resistance consisting of magnetic material for direct induction of magnetic field is carried out by the open gap side. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 59 cl, 26 dwg
