FIELD: foundry. SUBSTANCE: electromagnetic limiting device is used to limit mass of molten metal placed vertically over open end of space between two casting rolls rotating in opposite directions in machine casting extended strip. Device has three conductors of magnetic flux each having pair of spaced apart surfaces located near and facing mass of molten metal. Two such surfaces of first conductor of magnetic flux form relatively wide air gap near upper part of mass of molten metal, two such surfaces of second conductor of magnetic flux form relatively narrow air gap near lower part of mass of molten metal in clearance between casting rolls and two surfaces of third conductor of magnetic flux facing mass of molten metal are located between spaced apart surfaces of first conductor of magnetic flux in wide air gap. Three conductors of magnetic flux are coupled to coils through which current alternating in time flows creating horizontal magnetic fields in air gaps that limit mass of molten metal on open end of space between casting rolls. EFFECT: improved operational reliability of electromagnetic limiting device. 41 cl, 22 dwg
