FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: methylbutene is reacted with formaldehyde polymer in molar ratio 1:0.4-1.1, in 20- to 40-% aqueous sulfuric acid solution at 20-40 C, followed by separating organic phase and treating the latter at 70-180 C and under pressure with methylbutene, weight ratio of total amount of methylbutene-to-formaldehyde polymer is equal to 1:0.9-1.1. Treatment is carried out in aqueous sulfuric or phosphoric acid solution, or aqueous solution of acid salt resulting from reacting alkali metal with one of these acids, or in aqueous solution of one of these acids and its acid salt, acid concentration is 0-60 wt.-%, while salt concentration is 0-30 wt. -%. As methylbutene, method employs isoamylene fraction of semifinished product resulting from isoprene production. EFFECT: fuller use of by-products derive from isoprene production. 2 cl, 1 tbl
