FIELD: electrolytic technics. SUBSTANCE: electrode includes copper or other high-conductivity metal carrier in the form of a coated sheet. Carrier is covered by iron group metal layer, which, by turn, is covered by electrocatalyst layer made of intermetallic aluminum-nickel compound. Electrode also comprises aluminum-magnesium alloy plate covered by copper or other high- conductivity metal layer, the latter being connected to carrier. Electrode is manufactured by applying layer onto carrier at elevated temperature. To that end, copper or other high-conductivity metal carrier is annealed and covered by plasma spraying technique with nickel layer and then with nickel-aluminum layer. Applied layers are annealed, cooled to ambient temperature and leached in sodium hydroxide solution until gas release completely ceases, whereupon coated carrier is washed out and dried. Aluminum-magnesium alloy plate is covered by copper or other high-conductivity metal layer and then carrier and this layer are joined to each other by soldering.
