FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: axial internal combustion engine has housing with liner provided with scavenging and exhaust ports and pistons with splined bushings sliding along splined shafts on which gears are secured. These gears come into engagement with gears of synchronizing shaft. It has at least four transfer mechanisms, each consisting of bushing secured in engine housing and accommodating spring-loaded turnable shoe (pivot) provided with two conical sockets with solids of revolution. Transfer mechanisms for each piston are arranged diametrically opposite to each other in engine housing. In process of engine operation solids of revolution roll along endless sinusoidal grooves made on side surfaces pistons. Shoes (pivots) execute oscillatory motion around their axes depending on angle of inclination of grooves relative to piston axes. EFFECT: low mechanical stresses of parts of engine cylinder-piston group, high smoothness, shockless operation and stability of piston, high reliability and increased service life of engine. 4 dwg
