FIELD: metallurgy, in particular, continuous casting of steels of various grades by the method of complex casting. SUBSTANCE: method consists in feed of steel from the next casting ladle to an intermediate ladle, then to the mould, extension of moulding ingot at a variable speed, immersion of separating element in the mould in the meniscus of steel at a change of the grade of cast steel. Prior to immersion, the separating element is heated to a temperature of 200 to 600 C, a break of ingot extension is made, and the separating element is immersed in the metal meniscus in the mould to a depth equal to 0.8 to 1.2 of the element height. The device for continuous casting of steels of various grades has a casting and intermediate ladles, moulds and a separating element with holes in the walls made in the form of a hollow rectangular box. The holes in its walls are oriented respectively towards the upper and lower end faces of the mould. EFFECT: reduced length of ingot with a composite chemical composition, enhanced reliability of connection of ingots of steels of various grades and universality of use of separating element at casting of ingots of different length. 14 cl, 14 dwg, 1 tbl
