FIELD: glass melting. SUBSTANCE: method of operating regenerative glass-melting furnace with transversal propagation of flame designed to produce glass sheets with minimum release of nitrogen oxides is characterized by availability of sealed regenerators functioning as heat exchangers. Fuel is supplied in excess with regard to its amount providing stoichiometric burning leading to formation of the glass with required quality and yield, while release gases coming out of furnace through regenerators contain some combustible material. The latter interacts with sufficient amount of air ensuring allowable contents of combustible material and nitrogen oxides in release gases. Design of the furnace is also provided.
