FIELD: chemical industry; public utilities. SUBSTANCE: flow of medium being measured is passed through measuring section of pipeline, mark in the form of abnormal zone is formed continuously at section input and is recorded at section output. When signal indicating the recording of mark origin appears at output, this signal is supplied to mark former input. Mark formation at input is stopped by this signal till signal indicating the recording of mark end develops at section output. Then mark is formed again, and medium flow rate is determined by mark repetition frequency. device intended for method realization has measuring section of pipeline with mark former positioned at its input. Frequency synthesizer is installed upstream from mark former, and its output is connected to one input of comparator. Output of recording pickup positioned at measuring section output is connected to second input of comparator. Comparator output is connected to mark former input and to input of measuring circuit which consists of series-connected frequency divider and pulse number counter.
