FIELD: measurement technology, test of materials under free state and in elastic range of deformation. SUBSTANCE: accuracy of determination of magnetostriction is achieved by putting structure of tested material in order by removal of altered surface layer of sample and of plastic and elastic internal stresses. There is also used quantitative linkage between linear dimensions of sample and physical properties under resonance $$$, where $$$ is magnetostriction of tested material; $$$ is magnetostriction of reference material; $$$ is induced stress of sample of tested material; $$$ is induced stress of reference material. Limitation of dissipation of magnetostriction caused by temperature action is achieved thanks to compensation of temperature stresses by internal ones , for instance, under normal conditions.
