FIELD: conversion of axial motion into rotary motion. SUBSTANCE: drive member 1 of screw mechanism is connected with axial force application unit 2 for free axial motion and free rotation; drive member is engageable with unit 2 over friction surface or through solid bodies of revolution. Under action of one axial force, main drive member is alternately locked and set in motion at simultaneous unlocking and forced return of main drive member 1 to initial position at simultaneous locking and moving additional drive member 4 under action of opposite axial force, thus making it possible to obtain continuous one-direction rotation with possibility of inertial rotation of driven member, i.e. screw or nut; free stroke is formed automatically.
