FIELD: measurement technology, calibration of magnetographs and gears based on measurement of magnetic fields by Zeeman effect. SUBSTANCE: it is suggested that spectral line for calibration of photometric measurements of splitting of spectral lines in lateral magnetic field is artificially split in spectrograph into three linearly polarized components. Two side components are polarized orthogonally with regard to central one. Calibration is carried out at same device and with same light source for which measurements of intensity of magnetic fields are conducted. Splitting into three components is performed as follows: first birefrigent beam-spreading plate divides light going into spectrograph into two beams o and e, then o beam is split by specified value by Savart plate into two beams forming side σ-components of splitting with polarization of o beam in focal plane of spectrograph, finally second birefrigent plate brings e beam to middle between σ components to form central π component of splitting.
