FIELD: cleaning exhaust gases of internal- combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: method for serviceability check of catalyst converter connected to vehicle internal-combustion engine and incorporating carrying structure and catalytically active medium bonded with the latter involves following operations: measuring temperature (Tc) of catalytically active layer and/or of catalyst converter structure at least at one point; measuring exhaust gas temperature (Tg) in counter- current flow upstream of this point of catalyst converter; shaping at least one time derivative of both temperatures; shaping difference of time derivatives; recording moment (ti) after engine starting at which difference reverses its polarity. Method implementing this method has at least one sensing element for measuring carrier structure and/or catalytically active layer (Tc), at least one sensing element for measuring exhaust gas temperature (Tg), differentiating circuit for shaping time derivatives of measured temperatures (Tc,Tg), differential circuit for shaping difference form both time derivatives, first and second comparison circuits, first and second storage devices for saving desired values and/or temperatures measured earlier. EFFECT: timely detection of troubles in catalyst converter including its cold-starting operating period. 13 cl, 1 dwg
