FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: casting machine has crystallizer, guiding plate disposed in crystallizer and having upper surface for guiding cooling water, which is atomized at high pressure, and/or supporting plate 20 with upper guiding surface for cooling water flowing at low pressure. Guiding surfaces are made from insulating material. Electromagnetic screen 18,76 has active zone provided with cooling system. Housing 32 of crystallizer is made from multiple-bent perforated sheet 34. Active zone of screen is preferably made in the from of V-shaped or U-shaped sheet with insert or covering adapted for reducing inductor magnetic effect, which tends to increase from the bottom to the top. Method involves transmitting continuous reciprocating motion and/or rotation at predetermined rate to water guiding surface 80. As a result, water curtain 22 independent of electromagnetic screen 18 moves up and down over billet 14 to height h. EFFECT: increased efficiency by controlled supply of cooling water and enhanced reliability in operation. 14 cl, 8 dwg
